Nearly $280,000 Raised In First Two Years

Portage Health Foundation (PHF) is heading into its third year of participating in Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. We're calling it Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is. This fundraising effort is to help raise awareness, advocate for and help non-profits throughout our four-county community, which includes Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties.

Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support. This year that date is December 3, 2019.

PHF feels strongly that we can play a role in helping the non-profit sector outside of our own granting. Since 2017, we have used this charitable day of giving as a platform to advocate and fundraise for other organizations. Our Giving Tuesday initiative, Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is, encourages the community to get on board and support the organizations that mean the most to them. 

Through two years we’ve put nearly $280,000 into our community’s non profits through $139,555 in donations, and another $139,555 matched by PHF.

PHF Matching Up to $100,000 in $2019

In 2019, all money raised on Giving Tuesday will be matched dollar-for-dollar by PHF up to a cumulative match of $100,000.00. One hundred percent of all monies donated will be passed on to the appropriate organization. Below is how you can get involved:

How to Donate on Giving Tuesday

The list of vetted organizations will be announced in mid-October.

To donate, please click the Donate Now button below, fill out the form and enter the organization you wish to donate to in the comment section of the donation form. This will allow us to know which organization your money needs to be given to. 

If you are donating to more than one of the designated organizations, please only fill out one donation form and note the organization with the respective amounts in the comment section. If more than $100,000 is donated, the match will be split based on the percentage of money donated to each cause.

If someone does not want to donate online, checks can be mailed to Portage Health Foundation (P.O. Box 299; Hancock, MI 49930). The check must be written out to Portage Health Foundation, the organization you wish the money to go to must be noted and the check must be postmarked by December 3.

Please note that PHF will accept donations that come in before the December 3 date, but are encouraging individuals to wait until the day of giving to donate. Also, donations submitted after December 3 will not be eligible for PHF match.
