Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is.On Giving Tuesday this year, 15 non-profits in the four-county area will be raising money and splitting up to $100,000 in a match from the Portage Health Foundation. Donations can be made on Tuesday, December 3 at phfgive.org or by check, made payable to Portage Health Foundation, with the receiving organization’s name in the comments section on the check. If the check is mailed, it must be postmarked by December 3.

The non-profits are Swedetown Trails Club, Superior Search & Rescue, Simple Kindness for Youth (SKY), Phoenix House, Ontonagon County Cancer Society, Omega House, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, Keweenaw Family Resource Center, Dial Help, Dan Schmitt Gift of Music, Copper Country Senior Meals, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter, Baraga County Shelter Home and 31 Backpacks.

"I've met personally with just about every one of these non-profits over the last month, and have to say I am incredibly impressed with the work they do, the positivity they emit and amount of heart they have on a daily basis to help others in our community," said Michael H. Babcock, Marketing & Communications Coordinator at PHF. "The funds we raise on Giving Tuesday this year will make a huge difference to all of them. I can’t wait to see what kind of support our community provides them with."

Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support. During the previous two years, PHF put nearly $280,000 into our community’s non-profits through $139,555 in donations, and a $139,555 match.

In addition to donating at phfgive.org, those interested in supporting Giving Tuesday are invited to follow the Portage Health Foundation on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter that day for live videos with many of the non-profits benefiting from the fundraising.
