Portage Health Foundation #GivingTuesday goal of $100,000 greatly exceeded

December 5, 2019 | By Admin

Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is.The donations came in seemingly nonstop during the busiest #GivingTuesday yet for the Portage Health Foundation as more than $100,000 was raised for 15 non-profit organizations from Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties.

The total amount donated is still being tabulated, including how much each of the non-profits had designated to them. It is expected that number will be announced midway through next week.

“We know that donors don’t blindly contribute their hard-earned dollars to charities that aren’t meeting needs and using their precious dollars carefully, including expense management,” said Kevin Store, executive director of the Portage Health Foundation. “We are extremely thankful for the outpouring of community support and for everyone who made these donations possible.”

The non-profits were Swedetown Trails Club, Superior Search & Rescue, Simple Kindness for Youth (SKY), Phoenix House, Ontonagon County Cancer Society, Omega House, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, Keweenaw Family Resource Center, Dial Help, Dan Schmitt Gift of Music, Copper Country Senior Meals, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter, Baraga County Shelter Home and 31 Backpacks.

Be sure to follow the Portage Health Foundation on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for an announcement on the final number of how much was raised and how much was raised for each organization.
