Part-Time Getting Ahead Facilitator

Coppers Shores Bridges is seeking dedicated and passionate Part-Time Getting Ahead Facilitators.  The Copper Shores Bridges Facilitator role is to lead the Getting Ahead in a Just Getting By World curriculum. This is a 16-week program of self-discovery that meets one night per week. Through Getting Ahead, “Investigators” who take the class will learn how to take charge of their lives. The facilitator will help guide the investigators through the process and play a pivotal role in supporting the investigators to create positive change. The goal of the class is to help foster a better life, and a more stable future story. We are looking for multiple facilitators that would lead classes in Houghton, Baraga and Ontonagon Counties.  

General Responsibilities

  • Participate in Bridges Out of Poverty/Getting Ahead training requirements.
  • Lead weekly group sessions based on the Bridges Out of Poverty curriculum. 
  • Create a safe and inclusive environment where investigators feel comfortable sharing their experiences, insights, and challenges related to poverty.
  • Facilitate discussions, activities, and exercises that encourage critical thinking, reflection, and collaborative problem-solving. 
  • Support participants in setting and achieving individual goals for personal and professional development.
  • Collaborate with Bridges Director to assess participant progress, address concerns, and make necessary adjustments to the curriculum or session plans. 
  • Coordinate and provide guidance to investigators to complete required assignments and assessments.
  • Schedule and facilitate weekly make-up sessions with investigators, as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, including participant information, evaluations, and program outcomes, and prepare reports as required. 
  • Coordinate with Copper Shores Community Support and Outreach staff and community partners on referrals and advocacy for investigators. 
  • Participate in graduations and Getting Ahead alumni events as agreed upon. 
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Education or GED.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of individuals. 
  • Empathy and cultural sensitivity to effectively work with individuals from different socio-economic backgrounds and life experiences. 
  • Ability to travel to your classroom site in either Houghton, Baraga and Ontonagon Counties on a weekly basis.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills. 

Desired Skills and Other Attributes

  • Experience empowering and building safe, trusting, and healing relationships with individuals and families living in poverty and from diverse backgrounds
  • Personal experience living in situational or generational poverty.  

Typical Work Schedule

Evening Hours. Co-Facilitate a Getting Ahead class in either Houghton, Baraga or Ontonagon County.  The class runs for a 16-week session.  Attend trainings and other events as needed.  

Position Classification, Wage Scale and Other Benefits

Part-Time, non-exempt temporary position with a salary expected to be $1,925 for the training and 16-week session.
